Urgent COVID-19 Needs
Our partners at VOH: Malawi need our help to feed the children they care for and their families.
The COVID-19 crisis is only just beginning in Malawi. With government restrictions being put in place, one of the biggest fears for these vulnerable children and their families is actually starvation.
VOH: Malawi is caring for nearly 300 students representing 200 households by providing them with a food pack that includes a 1 month supply of food staples.
The cost for one food pack is $44. You can help with a financial gift designated to VOH:Food Packs.
Jef and Renatta Walton
Did you know that missionaries like VOH: Malawi Directors Jef and Renatta Walton raise all their own financial support? They depend on individuals and churches like us to be able to continue their work.
Again due to COVID-19, they have recently experienced a drop in financial support. Yet even with this challenge, Jef and Renatta have been dipping into their personal budget to ensure all the children at the school continue to have enough food to eat.
You can support them by designating your gift to VOH:Leaders.
About VOH: Africa
Villages of Hope: Africa (VOH: Africa) is a registered Canadian charity that brings hope to children in need throughout Africa. They currently have 10 villages located in 5 countries.
About VOH: Malawi
Village of Hope: Malawi cares for orphans and vulnerable children and their families by providing free education, health care, a feeding program, and spiritual discipleship.
They are located on the outskirts of the capital city of Lilongwe in an area called Kauma.
VOH: Malawi works with a team of local community leaders (chiefs, elders, pastors, and others) to identify the most vulnerable children in Kauma. Currently they care for nearly 300 students from baby class (pre-school) to standard 3 (grade 3).
Long Term Goals
VOH: Malawi continues to develop a full 3+ acre site where they plan to ultimately build a full pre-school – grade 12 school. In May 2020 they completed construction of a double school block for pre-school children! This adds to the two school blocks that are currently on site for students in grades 1-3.
Thanks to your generous giving VOH: Malawi now has the funds they need to build their administration block, where staff will have a safe place to work on site. Construction on this project will start once government restrictions due to COVID-19 are lifted. There is also an ablution (bathroom) block under construction, though this has been paused due to COVID-19.
Future plans include more classrooms, a health care clinic, a kitchen for expanding the feeding program, a community hall and a levelled soccer pitch.
