The Best Gift Ever!

Sienna Kasdorf

Sunday, December 7

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

2 Corinthians 9:15
But thanks be to God for His indescribable gift.

Romans 8:32
He who did not spare His own son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?

Ever since I was a little girl, Christmas has always been my favourite holiday! Everything about it brings me so much joy and I have so many wonderful Christmas memories. Seeing all the pretty lights, listening to Christmas music, spending time with family, decorating the house, shopping for Christmas presents, and of course opening all my presents on Christmas morning are all a part of my fond memories of this special season.

One of my most favourite gifts that I received as a child was a musical jewelry box. When I opened the lid a dainty little ballerina would spin around while the music played. I thought it was the most precious gift ever and I remember how excited I was to receive that present.

As I’ve grown older, although I still enjoy receiving gifts, I love giving gifts even more. I get so much joy out of watching people open the gifts that I have personally selected for them. When I see the surprised, excited expressions on their faces it really warms my heart.

I can only imagine that this must be the feeling that God has when we accept the special gift that he has given to us. God knew just how much we all needed Jesus in our lives so he gave us all the most amazing gift we could ever receive. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” God’s gift to us brings us a joy that lasts forever!

When someone gives a gift, there is an expectation of a “thank you”. I remember when I was growing up my mom would always remind me to say, “thank you” when someone presented me with a gift.

As I take time to reflect on God’s very special gift to us during the Christmas season, I am so very grateful for the gift of His son, and I am reminded of all the blessings that I continue to receive.

Romans 8:32 says, “He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all - how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” God’s first gift to us was his son and everyday he continues to provide and bestow gifts to us.

What is one gift you were excited to receive as a kid? And then think about how equally excited you were to receive God’s gift to us. “Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift.” (2 Corinthians 9:15)
